Hafa Adai, yan welcome to i bente singko na Minagahet.
Despensa yu', despensa yu', for that five month gap without putting out an issue of Minagahet. I was out of commission for a while, stuck in school and activist work, but I promise to get back on track with this zine. There has been almost too much going on lately, especially in terms of the military and Guam, take this Washington Times article for example, "Guam Seen as Pivotal Base." Ready or not, looks like we're heading for something, and being a colony, we have very little say in what will happen...
One very exciting project that kept me away, was the conference I helped organize last month Famoksaiyan: Decolonizing Chamorro Histories, Identities and Futures. It was, an incredible success! More than 60 Chamorros attended as well as a number of others from Guam and interested stateside allies. Over the course of its two days, there was so much energy, excitement, passion and commitment. It was such an inspiring experience to see so many young Chamorros interested in the future of their islands and their communities. I won't say too much here, because I'm planning on putting together an issue comprised of testimonials from the gathering.
If you want to know more about the conference, how it went, what discussions took place, you can check out my posts on it, from my blog, No Rest for the Awake. For those interested in joining the momentum of the conference and the movement it might become, you can sign up for the listserv at this site, Famoksaiyan or if you're on myspace, connect to us there through our profile http://www.myspace.com/famoksaiyan..
For those that remember, and occasionally ask, FANAHGUE'YAN is still down. Get in touch with me is you're interested in being its ma'gas.

MINAGAHET is published by the Chamorro Information Activists, a non-profit, poorly funded and poorly staffed activist organization, created for the benefit of the people and the futures of Guam. Non-profit doesn't imply "non-profit status or anything" just that taya' suetdon-mami nu este. Pues an kala'u este, ti isao n-mami. Mismo i isaoni tinaigefsagan-mami. We aren't sure what that means, but we see it put at the bottom of other things, and the last thing we want to do is get in trouble for not telling people that all our rights are reserved as well. http://www.geocities.com/freeguahan firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com
